Fishing Reports from Rockport Guides

We fished Shamrock Bay today and had a surprise with a couple of really nice redfish. One was over 30″. The best speckled trout was 25 1/2 inches.  We had plenty of 16 to 18 inch trout on live bait (croakers and piggy perch). Give me a call to schedule your fishing trip at 956-607-7200.

The fishing the last couple of days has been tough due to 30 mph winds and high barometric pressure. We fished in the Rockport area on Saturday and headed for the Laguna Madre on Sunday.  Both days the fish bite occurred during the minor feeding periods and was non-aggressive.  We still ended up with a good stringer and fished five different bays. Give me a call at 956-607-7200 for a exciting day of bay fishing.

We fished with a group from Houston and we were able to catch some nice speckled trout on croakers.  The wind was up but we found some trout in a couple of protected coves.  Red fish were scattered but we were able to pick up a couple of good ones.  Give me a call at 956-607-7200 to schedule your bay fishing trip.

I fished a group for three days with great success.  We fished  deep shell reefs in the open bay for speckled trout with croakers.  We released lots of fish around 15″ and tried to keep enough in the 16 to 20 inch range to have fish for dinner plus some to take back to Houston.  Everyone had a great trip and caught lots of fish.  Our group was lucky enough to catch a big redfish.  Give us a call at 956-607-7200 and come down to fish in the bays.

We had a great day in the San Jose Island surf today. Very nice trout up to 25″ and a huge 40″ Redfish that tested our tackle. Another fish that spooled a reel filled with 30 lb FINS braid. It is always a true adventure to go to the surf. You never know what you will catch. We will try to go to the surf again tomorrow.  Give me a call at 956-607-7200 to schedule your trip.

Today, we (the Coastal Bend Guides Association) hosted Driscol Childrens Hospital Chemo Kids.   About 25 guides take 50 kids on a morning of fishing. FREE.  We had a great time.  My two guys were really great. We caught trout and a few catfish but it was all in fun. They had a fishing contest and one of my guys (Carlos Antonio Garcia)  caught the biggest trout (20 inches). After the fishing we had a great lunch with the kids. I will be looking forward to this again next year.

We fished the “Texas Deer Association Brush to Bay Fishing Tournament” today in Baffin Bay.  Lots of really nice trout. Many over 20 ” but no wall hangers today.  The 4 man team had over 100 keeper trout caught and released. They only kept 18 nice trout for dinner.  Redfish were a little slow but we did manage a 30 1/2″  over sized fish near a floating cabin.

We fished an area of Shamrock Bay today with croakers.  The trout were mostly over 20″ and aggressive.  The redfish were in shallow pot holes and the trout were just outside the grass.  Wading is best.

We fished the bays around Rockport and Port Aransas today and  enjoyed a great day on the bay. Trout were abundant on top water plugs like the Spook Jr. and She Dog.  Flounder and redfish on Gulps and Bass Assassins.  All in al a great day.
