We attempted to fish the surf of San Jose Island north of Port Aransas but found the surf to rough. On the way back to Port Aransas we stopped to troll for King Mackerel and caught a huge red fish. The fish was a great surprise for the Wilson family. Come down to Rockport / Port Aransas and catch a big fish redfish.

Today was calm and humid. Aransas Bay near Rockport was flat and looked like a mirror. We left Conn Brown Harbor at 6:00 AM for the run to the San Jose Island surf 20 miles north of Port Aransas. The ride was not bad. We found birds working small menhaden in the breakers and trout and red fish taking advantage of the bait. Our bite was steady and the fish larger than average even for the surf. By 11:00 AM, we had taken limits of speckled trout and red fish and everyone was sure of fresh fish for dinner. We stopped to fish a couple of production wells on the way home but no king fish or ling today. We were back to Conn Brown Harbor by 1:00 PM.

We had a good day fishing the upper Laguna Madre near Corpus Christi Texas. The saltwater bay fishing was very good. The speckled trout were taking live bait and we caught a big flounder as well. The catch of the day was granddad Roy’s big speckled trout. What a fish. Everyone caught fish and had a good day. I enjoyed having three generations of fisherman with me today. What a great way to celebrate Father’s Day.

Today my guests wanted to take a day off from bay fishing and fish for Kingfish. We headed out through the Port Aransas jetties and found plenty of kingfish about 4 miles offshore near a platform. The Gulf of Mexico was calm and the fishing was fast and furious. The result was 4 king fish, 1 spanish mackeral, and three bonito. They all pull hard and are fun to catch. The kings and mackeral are good eating and the bonito make great bait for a types of fish including redfish, red snapper, and shark. That is the great thing about fishing near Rockport, Texas. There are several options for fishing. Come to Rockport / Port Aransas and fish with me sometime.
